Chaos at Howe Community Park Injures 4 Shot in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Law enforcement in Sacramento are looking into a gunfire incident that occurred Saturday evening at Howe Park in Sacramento at the moment law enforcement were breaking up a large unauthorized gathering of a crowd of several hundred.

Before the Gunfire

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first called to Howe Community Park at about 6:30 PM on April 18 after being notified of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Not long after, a second caller reported describing a possible physical fight unfolding at the location.

An overhead unit scanned the area from the air but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Despite this, it was apparent that a massive group had gathered without authorization in an unauthorized manner.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by encircling the gathering and broadcasting over loudspeakers ordering those gathered to vacate the area. Approximately 15 minutes were allowed for people to comply.

It was during this dispersal that 20 to 25 gunshots were fired. The shots caused mass panic. Law enforcement at once began looking for those injured.

Four Victims Hospitalized

Altogether, four individuals were found to have been shot. The victims — a group of one female and three male victims each apparently in their 20s — were transported to area medical facilities. Medical personnel stated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one sustained moderate wounds, and one victim's wounds were minor. Thankfully, all four were expected to survive.

Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and assisted with medical triage the four victims at the scene.

Physical Evidence

The primary shooting scene appears to have occurred on the Cottage Way side of the park next to the Home Depot store situated at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Law enforcement investigators identified additional spent rounds scattered along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were discovered in the wrought iron perimeter fencing alongside the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries showed that one of the gunmen had been aiming south from along Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot. The nearby Home Depot was locked down while the scene was check here active. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives continued working for hours.

Detainees in Solano County

Reports confirmed through law enforcement radio communications confirmed that a Kia vehicle was pulled over in an area within Solano County. Four suspects were stopped and detained. Sheriff's units were traveling to Solano County to transport the detainees for questioning. Video reviewed at the scene made clear that there were two gunmen.
